Fiat Coupe

The Coupe was a great car to drive. Sara used it most in her job as a District Nurse. It was very hard to part with it.

Wolseley 14/60 1938
wol

Wol as we called him was the car I learned to drive on. It had a twin carburettor 1818cc inline six cylinder engine that developed 60 bhp or so. It had a steel chassis which made it very heavy, and four doors that made it very accessable. The running boards were very useful as seats when you went out on a picnic. There was no synchromesh so you had to double de-clutch when changing gear.

Cecil the Austin Chummy
Cecil

I bought Cecil in Chertsey around 1964 for £25. It broke down on it’s first journey to Devon. I left it in a lay-by on the Basingstoke by-pass and caught a train home. Next day I phoned a scrap merchant in that area and made him a preesent of the car if he would remove it. I sent him the keys and heard no more about it. Sad really, but those were the days before I knew anything about cars.

Alfa Guiletta 1964
White Alfa

I bought this off Bill Goodman whose company were sending him to abroad. It came with Bill’s friend Reg. Styles who taught me lots about car maintenance
